S&M Cafe

All Day Fast Casual Restaurant

SM Cafe

Known throughout North London and seen in Quadrophenia, the original Alfredo’s was both listed and loved by the local community, Frank Fraser was practically part of the furniture, Steven Berkoff was a regular throughout his hungry years and even the Kray twins were customers.

The original Deco styling dated from 1920 and is all gleaming steel, lashings of blue table Formica amazing wall panels and vitrolite ceilings throughout, the exterior and interior were listed as examples 1940’s architecture. Kristian, along with the client, worked on defining, designing, and creating the venue into S&M’s foundation store. This saw him research the history, essence, and culture of the traditional British café, define and redirect into a timeless interpretation.

‘At first glance one might assume that a new chain of S&M Cafes – which stands for sausage and mash rather than ‘please nail my genitals to the wall, Vicar’ – is a celebration of the greasy spoon.’ – Jay Mascher
